Christmas Spirit

I got these pictures from my mom and thought it was so cute that my nephew had rearranged the nativity to make it so that "Everybody was looking at Jesus."

I told my mom she should have left it that way because it's like the epitome of what Christmas should be about. We all should be looking at Jesus. I love the innocence of children and how the Christmas spirit is so easy for them. I love when I reach the point each year that I finally catch onto that spirit. Some years it takes me longer than others to allow it to penetrate and change me. But I love the feeling when it finally does and my focus becomes different; becomes better. Hopefully my actions reflect it as well.

This video clip really touched me because it illustrates how things often come full circle and though we may be unaware of all the repercussions of our actions, it doesn't change the reality that we all can and do produce an impact on those around us. If you get the chance, I recommend watching this through the end.

I recently heard a story of how some elementary school children were putting on their Christmas program and were singing a song called "Christmas Love." At various points in the song, the children on the front row would hold up one of the the letters to spell the song title. When it got to the girl holding the letter 'm' she accidentally held it upside down so it looked like a 'w'. People snickered at first, but by the time the rest of the letters were up, the sentence read "Christ was Love." For another really cute video, about the Christmas Spirit, click here.

I hope you've all caught the Christmas Spirit already this year and if not, it's not too late! It's our choice. As the third verse of O Little Town of Bethlehem states:

"How silently, how silently, the wondrous Gift is giv’n;
So God imparts to human hearts the blessings of His Heav’n.
No ear may hear His coming, but in this world of sin,
Where meek souls will receive Him still, the dear Christ enters in."

A place of love and beauty

Fall is so pretty in Provo. I'm not sure I've ever appreciated and enjoyed autumn this much before. It really is a nice season. I'm glad I thought to take my camera when I went to the temple last Thursday. I got some really great artistic shots. I didn't used to be super fond of the look of this temple, but I'm loving it more and more. All temples are beautiful though and I love that they are unique and don't have to be all the same outside and yet each contains the truth and the same saving ordinances inside.

Based strictly on the exterior appearance-
my favorite is the Washington D.C. Temple.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I love my mom!
.
I miss my mom!
.
I want my mom!
(Yep. That's my mom! She's hardcore :)
I obviously miss my mom simply because since I live in Provo and she lives in Pocatello I don't see her often. I plan to go home over Halloween weekend and that makes 52 days since I saw her last. I promise, that is a new record for us. I've never been apart from my mom for that long without at least a brief reunion. To some people that may seem crazy, but my mom is my best friend and we're super close, so neither of us really likes being separated.
Usually it's pretty manageable because we talk on the phone a lot. The past two weeks have been quite irregular though. Why? Oh just because she's four hours behind me, so if I want to call her at 9 am my time, it would be 5 am for her. It's made things complicated. Also, her phone is ruined (water got spilled on it). I'm starting to feel very deprived of my mother. I hope she's had a good vacation, but I'm excited for her to come back! If I can avoid it, I decided I shouldn't ever live in a different timezone than her.
She gets back to Idaho this Saturday and then I'm going to Idaho the following Saturday. Can you tell I'm excited? I hope you're prepared Mom-- I literally have been writing down a list of things to tell you, share with you, show you, and update you on.
Say Hola Sofía
I'm currently a pronunciation tutor for the neatest lady named Sofía Ávila. She went to Mexico to get some dental work done (because it's way cheaper down there) and today she brought me all of these!
All of it is handmade authentic Mexican merchandise. She is such a sweet and generous woman. She also has so much faith. I love interacting with her and hearing her stories. I found out today that she's 68 years old, but I would have guessed around 53 years old. She has so much energy and vitality for life. Despite the large age gap, I'm so comfortable with her and we always have a great time.
(Yet another piece of evidence that I have an old soul).
It's an interesting story how we met. I had been e-mailing a lady about what I thought was a paid job helping with pronunciation and when I found out it wasn't paid, I decided not to do it. The next day at an event for the college of Humanities I ended up standing in line next to a friendly Mexican woman and after a lengthy conversation, we finally told each other our names. Everything came together and I decided it was definitely destiny that I ended up there at the same time. So even though it's strictly volunteer, I'm enjoying it and feel very blessed to know her.
It's kind of funny that I'm helping her with her English pronunciation because I think her accent is absolutely charming and I have no trouble understanding her (although I usually never have problems with any accents, especially Spanish ones).
Notes: Jason makes a really fabulous werewolf :)
It took turning Grant and Danny both into Frankenstein for
me to see the resemblance between them. Go figure.
(Danny already has the sunglass bumps, so he's a shoo-in & a natural for the part)
And Nana... I told you that you can still dance!
Mt. Timpanogos Temple
I got to go here today.
It was truly amazing and definitely one of my most special temple experiences to date. Of all the baptistries I've been in, I think this is my favorite. The temple is so calm, so beautiful, and so spiritual. I'm so grateful for temples. As a side note, I was excited to realize and wanted to remember that I did 10 confirmations and
10 baptisms on the tenth day of the tenth month! :)
Flash mobs rock!
I know this is a lot of clips, but I love flash mob dances! All I can say is if I was ever somewhere when one unexpectedly occurred
it would absolutely make my day . That would be so sweet!
I ♥ BYU!
Tonight the Cougars played the Utah State Aggies.
We totally won :)
Kristine and I made some random new friends.
The male cheerleaders held the girls up by only one hand and
had a competition to see who could keep their girl up the longest.
Someone started a wave that actually made it around
the entire stadium twice! It was awesome. I love the wave.
Rise and Shout the Cougars are Out!
These guys did push ups when we scored.
By the end, they had to do 35 in a row.
The final score. BYU= champions. Love it!
